01/04 PETIT WEEK IN WINE - Blind Tasting Challenge

PETIT WEEK IN WINE | January 5 - January 8 2023

This Week's Flight Showcase:

A Blind Tasting of FOUR Red Wines

Guess all four red grapes correctly,

and a bonus pour is on us! Plus bragging rights...

Happy New Year y'all,

I hope you had a fantastic holiday season and are getting into the swing of 2023. And as Sinatra says, "the best is yet to come" this year. Get ready. It will be a big year at PETIT.

This week, join us for a long overdue Blind Tasting Challenge to re-engage our brains & palates. I know we engaged out palates a lot over the holidays, so think of this as fun AND academic. It's the perfect seasonal challenge. Four red varietals and your job is to tease out which is which. Seems simple, right?

Guess all four grapes correctly and we'll gladly deliver you a gratis, extra pour of your favorite in the flight. Plus, you'll have bragging rights with your wine-loving friends all weekend.

What better way to learn more about specific wines, and continue your wine journey! And for those a bit more advanced, you can level-up by guessing the region and the vintage. Pull that off and the whole flight is on me.

The flight challenge starts Thursday evening and will continue through the weekend. Check hours for Myers Park vs South End below.

The blind flight is a nice $22.

See you soon and stay tuned for our first couple 2023 wine events starting up soon.

Cheers to a prosperous 2023 -

Mark

RED VARIETAL CRASH COURSE

Syrah

  • Typical taste: aromas and flavors of wild black fruit (such as blackcurrant), with overtones of black pepper spice, roasting meat, and savory notes.

Merlot

  • Typical taste: typical scents include black cherry, plums and herbal flavors. The texture is round, but a middle palate gap is common. Typically less tannic than Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Typical taste: full-bodied, but firm and gripping when young. Rich currant and blackberry qualities.

Malbec

  • Typical taste: bold, in-your-face fruit yet with a softer, less tannic experience. An easy-drinking style, well-colored wine that tastes of plums, berries, and spice.

Gamay

  • Typical taste: elevated acidity and little tannin structure, the wine is straightforward to drink and exhibits flowery aromas and tart flavors of red fruits like cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and red currant.

Zinfandel

  • Typical taste: Candied fruitiness followed by spice and often a tobacco-like smoky finish. Primary zesty flavors of jam, blueberry, black pepper, cherry, plum, and boysenberry.

Cabernet Franc

  • Typical taste: lighter than its disciple Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc shows aromas and flavors of raspberry, red cherry with violet floral and bell pepper herbaceous notes.

Join us this week as we feature FOUR red wines from around the world in a Blind Tasting format!

Richard Juhlin is world famous for his skills in blind tasting. At the annual Spectacle du Monde tasting in Paris in 2003 he correctly identified 43 out of 50 champagnes when the runner-up identified just four!
