The Experience
This dinner offers a rare opportunity to taste across California’s cool-climate coastline in a comparative, table-driven format. Moving from Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast to Mendocino and Anderson Valley, the progression highlights how coastal climate and vineyard site shape expression in the glass.
At the heart of the evening is Pinot Noir, tasted across multiple vineyard sources and vintages to reveal subtle differences in structure, texture, and depth. Each wine will be personally introduced by Rick, offering insight into the vineyards, growing seasons, and winemaking decisions behind each bottle.
Chef Charlie Reid will present a menu designed to complement the arc of the wines, allowing each pairing to highlight nuance while reinforcing balance.
This is an evening meant to be savored: paced intentionally, enjoyed communally, and grounded in thoughtful conversation.

About Rick Davis & CalStar Cellars
Founded in 2001, CalStar Cellars reflects Rick Davis’s long-standing commitment to balanced, site-driven winemaking. With roots in soil science and hands-on cellar experience, Rick’s approach is grounded in understanding how vineyard character expresses itself through careful, restrained winemaking.
Rather than focusing on estate ownership, CalStar partners with growers across Northern California’s coastal regions, selecting vineyards that offer distinctive structure and sense of place. Pinot Noir sits at the center of the portfolio, offering a lens into how climate, elevation, and soil influence nuance.
In the cellar, extraction is measured, oak is supportive rather than dominant, and clarity is the goal. The resulting wines emphasize freshness, detail, and harmony — wines designed not to overwhelm, but to reward attention.
Why We’re Excited
CalStar represents the kind of producer we love to champion: subtly expressive, deeply site-focused, and built around wines that belong at the table. This dinner is a rare opportunity to taste multiple coastal appellations side by side, guided by the winemaker himself, in an intimate setting designed for comparison.
