Gevrey-Chambertin was Napoleon’s favorite wine & of the 40 Grands Crus of Burgundy, 9 belong to this AOC. “Les Crais” (or “Chalk”) is located in the village of Gevrey, and wines here tend to be more fragrant due to the concentration of gravel in the soil.

Description
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir from 60 years-old vines. Cold-maceration for 10 days before fermentation. Fermentation in concrete vats for about 15 days. Aged for 15 months in 400L French oak barrels (50% new and 50% 1-year-old).
Taste: The classic style of Gevrey-Chambertin is typically deeper in color & more structured than most other red Burgundies. The 2017 is aromatic and quite expressive as it displays aromas of wild red cherry and rose petal. Silky and supple personality characteristic due to the south facing slopes is also evident on the palate. The finish shows delicate spicy notes and an inviting lively backbone.
