L'Arco Rosso del Veronese 2017
The L'Arco wine estate takes its name from an historic stone arch, the “Arco di Giove” which dates back to the 16th century. Founded by Luca Fredigo, this winemaker approaches winemaking and farming with a natural, minimalist approach. His philosophy evolved in his teens working alongside the famous Valpolicella guru, Giuseppe Quintarelli. The artistry of Quintarelli in the winery has been transmitted onto Luca and it really shows through his cuvées at L'Arco, where tradition trumps modernism in both style and blending. The result from such this vigneron's mindset are long-lived reds that truly reflect Valpolicella's classical style. Composed mostly of the usual suspects (Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara), this 'Rosso del Veronese' also includes a dollop of Sangiovese, and this addition speaks volumes of Luca's skill.
Vinification: Grapes are pressed immediately after they are harvested. Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately 7 days.
Grapes: Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Sangioveto, Teroldego
Taste: Aromas of stewed black cherries lead the way, but there is so much complexity on the nose, you'll find hints of lavender, fig and freshly tilled earth in this Rosso as well. On the the palate, grippy tannins will greet your taste buds and coat them afterwards in a wonderfully luscious way, no it's not weird that way. Medium to full-bodied with great length, this is the ideal pairing with an Italian classic, Lasagne Bolognese! Keep the meal simple, the wine will make this easy supper perfection!
