LIOCO "Sativa" Mendocino Carignan 2017

LIOCO, named after the 2 founders (LI from Licklider & OCO from O'Connor), favors traditional European nuanced winemaking and varietals that produce wine of typically old world style with California sunshine. The '17 Carignan is one such example!

Description

Varietal: Carignan from 70-year old, head-trained, dry-farmed vines that are planted on south-facing exposures at 2200-2400 feet in Mendocino County. 9 months in neutral oak and 1 month in tank prior to bottling.

Taste: Broad notes of crushed black & blue fruits dominate the nose and palate but subtle tones of violets and dried herbs in the background add complexity. There's some grip from the tannins and acidity, but this hefty red still offers a seamless finale.
