This week, we're celebrating one of the world's most iconic and versatile grape varietals: Pinot Noir!
Though the exact origins of this humble grape remain a mystery, it's believed that Pinot Noir has been cultivated across the globe since the 1st century AD. It was the Cistercian monks of France during the Medieval period who first brought this grape into the spotlight, laying the foundation for modern European winemaking. From there, Pinot Noir spread across the globe, becoming one of the most coveted varietals in both France and the United States.

As the climate in traditional winegrowing areas shifts, Washington's burgeoning wine industry is emerging as a beacon of possibility.
This week, we have the distinct honor of featuring the wines of one of Rioja's most prolific estates: Marqués de Murrieta. Founded in 1852 by Don Luciano Murrieta, this family estate is the first documented producer of Rioja wines and the first to bottle and export them from Spain. Don Luciano’s Bordeaux training had a lasting impact, introducing the groundbreaking use of oak-aging in Spain that forever changed the way Rioja wines are crafted.
