Description

Chassagne isn’t just a white-wine star—its reds can be some of the Côte de Beaune’s most underrated gems, and Paul Jouard’s is a perfect example. The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge (Vieilles Vignes) offers a deeper, more savory Pinot profile than many of its neighbors: ripe black cherry and cassis, a touch of briary woodland fruit, and gentle spice from well-integrated oak. It’s polished and crowd-pleasing, but still unmistakably Burgundian in shape and lift.

Why We Love It

This is a fantastic “Burgundy red drinker’s” bottle: village Chassagne with real old-vine character and enough oak to feel serious—without losing freshness. It’s also a great alternative to more expensive Côte de Nuits village wines for customers who want classic Pinot character with a bit more savory depth.

Winemaking

Paul Jouard is known for a traditional, hands-on approach—vineyard work first, then restrained cellar technique. This bottling leans into classic Côte de Beaune Pinot Noir: fruit and structure balanced by oak that’s present but integrated, supporting the wine’s texture and length rather than dominating aromatics.

Serving & Pairing

Serve slightly cool (55–60°F).

Great pairings:

  • Roast chicken, duck, or turkey

  • Pork tenderloin, herb sausages

  • Mushroom dishes (risotto, pasta, ragù)

  • Charcuterie and pâté

  • Gruyère, Comté, or soft washed-rind cheeses

Drinking Window

Beautiful now with a little air, and will drink well over the next 3–7 years. Expect more savory/earth complexity as it settles in bottle.
