The Experience
The Mosel is one of the most dramatic wine regions in the world, with Riesling grown on steep slate slopes above the river. At S.A. Prüm, that story centers on Wehlener Sonnenuhr, the famous “sundial of Wehlen,” named for the sundial built into the cliff face by a Prüm ancestor in 1842.
Over dinner, we will taste how this estate works across the full range of Riesling: bone-dry, mineral, and precise bottlings alongside Kabinett and Spätlese wines that balance natural sweetness with electric acidity. The lineup is built as a progression, moving from accessible dry Riesling into Grand Cru vineyard wines, including two GG bottlings poured side by side.
This is not just a dinner for Riesling lovers. It is an evening for anyone who buys white Burgundy, Chablis, Sancerre, Etna Bianco, or cellar-worthy white wine and wants to understand why the Mosel belongs in that conversation.
Featured Wines
S.A. Prüm Blue Trocken Riesling 2022
The opening wine of the evening and the clearest introduction to the estate’s dry Riesling style. It is clean, mineral, and slate-driven, with notes of green apple, white peach, citrus, and a salty finish.
S.A. Prüm Dry Riesling Wehlen Ortswein 2019
A village-level Riesling from Wehlen, showing more depth and site expression than the Blue Trocken. Expect ripe apple, peach, apricot, floral notes, and the firm mineral backbone that defines the Sonnenuhr vineyard.
S.A. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2020
A Grand Cru vineyard wine from old, ungrafted vines, made in the classic Kabinett style. It is light in alcohol, lifted by acidity, and gently off-dry, with lemon, lime, green apple, peach, and a mineral finish.
S.A. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling GG 2020
The dry Grand Cru expression of Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Broader and more powerful than the Kabinett, this wine shows stone fruit, quince, tropical notes, and the long grey-slate finish that makes the vineyard so prized.
S.A. Prüm Graacher Domprobst GG Riesling 2017
A second Grand Cru GG, this time from Graacher Domprobst. Compared with Sonnenuhr, Domprobst brings more spice, body, texture, and earthiness, offering a serious site comparison for collectors and Riesling enthusiasts.
S.A. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2019
The closing wine of the evening, and the richest expression of Wehlener Sonnenuhr in the lineup. Ripe pear, candied apricot, honey, ginger, and citrus are balanced by firm acidity and slate minerality, giving the wine depth without heaviness.

About S.A. Prüm
S.A. Prüm is a family estate in Wehlen, in Germany’s Middle Mosel, with roots in the region dating back to 1156. The winery itself was founded in 1911 by Sebastian Alois Prüm, whose initials gave the estate its name.
Today, the estate is led by Saskia Andrea Prüm, the fourth generation of the family to own the winery and the first woman in the family’s history to do so. Since taking ownership in 2017, Saskia has continued the estate’s work with Riesling from steep slate vineyards, including parcels in the legendary Wehlener Sonnenuhr.
The estate farms exclusively Riesling and works across both dry and off-dry styles, from precise Trocken bottlings to Grand Cru GG wines, Kabinett, Spätlese, and beyond. The through-line is always the same: slate, acidity, clarity, and wines that can age far beyond what their delicacy might suggest.
Your Host for the Evening
Ian Ribowsky, General Manager of S.A. Prüm USA, will lead the dinner on behalf of the estate. Ian brings decades of experience in the wine trade, including deep work with European producers and German wine, making him a strong guide to both the estate and its growing presence in the American market.
Why We’re Excited
This dinner gives guests a chance to taste the Mosel in a way that is rarely presented here: not as a sweet-wine category, but as one of the great terroir-driven white wine regions of the world.
The lineup includes dry Riesling, old-vine Kabinett, Spätlese, and two Grand Cru GG wines, all from a historic estate with a direct connection to one of Germany’s most famous vineyard sites. For serious white wine buyers, this is the kind of evening that makes the category click.
