Description

This is the complete set from this week's tasting flight: three wines from S.A. Prüm that trace Mosel Riesling from its most approachable expression to one of Germany's highest-classified dry whites. The 2022 "Blue" Trocken opens clean and precise. The 2019 Wehlen Ortswein steps up in texture and village-level depth. The 2017 Graacher Domprobst GG closes the set with nine years of bottle age and the kind of mineral complexity that defines why collectors chase mature Mosel Riesling.

Buying the set gives you the full conversation in bottle form -- and the GG alone is worth the price of admission.

What's in the Bundle:

S.A. Prüm "Blue" Trocken Riesling 2022

  • Mosel, Germany | 100% Riesling The entry point and the clearest window into the estate's house style. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve primary aromatics, bottled bone dry with less than 9 g/L residual sugar. Bright lime, green apple, and white peach with the signature slate minerality of the Middle Mosel running through the finish. Crisp, focused, and more layered than the price suggests.

S.A. Prüm 'Wehlen Ortswein' Dry Riesling 2019

  • Mosel, Germany | 100% Riesling A village-level step up, drawing from Wehlen's classified vineyards -- the same appellation that holds the legendary Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Fermented in traditional large-format oak Fuder, which adds texture while keeping the site's mineral core intact. The 2019 vintage brought warm, even ripening across the Mosel, and the wine shows it: white peach, apricot, and ripe citrus opening into a more generous mid-palate with a cool, almost saline finish. Same architecture as the Blue -- more weight on top of it.

S.A. Prüm 'Graacher Domprobst' GG Dry Riesling 2017

  • Mosel, Germany | 100% Riesling Grosses Gewächs is Germany's highest classification for dry wine -- grand cru in everything but name, restricted to the VDP's top-ranked vineyard sites and subject to strict yield and vinification standards. Graacher Domprobst is a steep south-facing slope of deep blue slate in the village of Graach, directly neighboring Wehlen. The 2017 vintage delivered ripe, concentrated fruit with strong natural acidity, and nine years of bottle age have brought the wine to a genuinely compelling place: still vibrant, but beginning to show the petrol-and-honey development that defines great aged Mosel Riesling. Fermented and aged in Fuder with extended lees contact. Meyer lemon, dried apricot, white flowers, and a building note of petrol on a rich, taut palate with layered citrus pith, stony minerality, and a long precise finish. The kind of wine that keeps changing in the glass.

Why We Built This Set:

The three wines in this bundle were selected because they tell a complete story... not just about S.A. Prüm, but about what Mosel Riesling is actually capable of. The "Blue" shows you the grape at its cleanest. The Ortswein shows you what village-level site expression adds. The GG shows you where it all goes with time, terroir, and a classified vineyard behind it.

GG bottles from respected Mosel estates at this level rarely appear outside of collector allocations and fine dining lists. We have a small allocation of the 2017 and are making it available as part of this week's flight and this bundle while it lasts.

About S.A. Prüm:

The Prüm family has farmed the Mosel Valley since the 12th century. The modern S.A. Prüm estate was established in 1911 by Sebastian Alois Prüm following a division of the larger family property, and it remains family-run today under Saskia Andrea Prüm. The estate farms exclusively on the region's steep slate slopes, with holdings in Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, and Graacher Domprobst. Wines are fermented and aged in traditional large-format Mosel casks, a practice that keeps the focus on grape and site. S.A. Prüm is widely considered a benchmark producer for understanding classic Middle Mosel style: elegant, mineral, age-worthy, and built for the long haul.

Drinking Window:

The "Blue" Trocken drinks beautifully now and through 2026-27. The Ortswein has several years of peak drinking ahead. The GG is in a compelling window now with the first signs of mature development, and will continue to evolve through 2030 and beyond for those inclined to hold.

Serving Notes:

All three wines benefit from 20-30 minutes in the refrigerator before serving. Serve in a universal or white Burgundy-style glass. Work through the set in order -- trocken to Ortswein to GG -- to follow the arc as intended.
