Why We Love It
This is a Champagne lover’s Champagne. Instead of relying on dosage for balance, Philipponnat lets the quality of fruit and the depth of their perpetual reserve do the work. The result is incredibly pure and precise — bone-dry but never austere, layered yet refreshingly drinkable.
It’s also one of the most compelling introductions to the concept of perpetual reserve blending, where each new release contains a living history of past vintages.
Winemaking
“Réserve Perpétuelle” takes its name from the traditional Champagne practice of continuously blending the current vintage with wines from previous years to preserve freshness while building complexity over time.
This cuvée is built from:
-
First-press fruit from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards around Mareuil-sur-Ay
-
A perpetual reserve dating back to 1946
-
Wines aged in wooden barrels to build depth
-
Partial fermentation without malolactic conversion for added freshness
Each year, two-thirds new vintage wine is blended with one-third perpetual reserve, and part of the blend is again held back in oak to continue the cycle.
The wine is bottled without dosage (0 g/L) to preserve purity and expression.
Serving & Pairing
Serve chilled (about 46°F / 8°C).
Perfect pairings:
