Description

Alain Pascal hand-harvests Grenache and Cinsault early in the picking season, macerates briefly, then blends in Mourvèdre for backbone, the same grape that gives Bandol's reds their reputation for structure. The result is a rosé with real weight and length rather than simple refreshment, built for the table rather than the pool deck.

Why We Love It

We like this because it challenges the idea that rosé is only a light aperitif. It has enough freshness for warm-weather drinking, but the Mourvèdre backbone makes it a bottle for grilled fish, roast chicken, and serious rosé drinkers.

Tasting Profile

Dry and savory, with pale fruit, citrus, and more structure than a typical Provence rosé.

  • Aroma: Peach, citrus peel, red berry, dried herbs
  • Palate (Flavor): White peach, grapefruit, melon, light savory spice
  • Structure & Finish (Mouthfeel): Medium body for rosé, fresh acidity, gentle grip, long dry finish

Winemaking

Grapes are harvested before dawn to keep the fruit cool, which preserves freshness and aromatic clarity. Strict sorting keeps the wine clean and focused. Gentle pressing limits extraction, giving the wine its pale color and fine texture rather than heavy phenolic grip.

Serving & Pairing

Serve at 46 to 50°F.

Pair with grilled fish, tuna niçoise, roast chicken, bouillabaisse, lamb skewers, or ratatouille. The structure handles richer Mediterranean food, while the acidity keeps the wine refreshing.

Perfect For: serious rosé drinkers, grilled fish, Provençal dinners, outdoor entertaining, warm-weather dinner parties, roast chicken lunches, host gifts

Estate Overview

Alain Pascal farms Domaine du Gros ’Noré around La Cadière d’Azur in Bandol. The estate has a reputation for powerful, traditionally minded wines, with Mourvèdre at the center of the rosé and red program. The same seriousness that defines Bandol rouge shows up here in a rosé with more depth and table range. Petit Philippe selected it for guests who want rosé with a serious table presence, not just a poolside pour.

Terroir (Place)

Bandol sits in Provence but produces rosé with more structure because Mourvèdre ripens fully in the warm Mediterranean climate. Gros ’Noré’s vineyards around La Cadière d’Azur get sun and warmth, which develop the wine’s body and savory fruit. The Mistral and coastal air help keep freshness, giving the finish its dry, lifted edge.
