Description

Featured at RoséFest 2026

Montenidoli was one of the more quietly distinctive wines at RoséFest. Made entirely from Canaiuolo, an old Tuscan grape now rarely bottled on its own, it drinks with more savory earth, herbal character, and texture than most people expect from rosé. There is fresh strawberry and citrus here, but also dried herbs, crushed stone, and a subtle rustic edge that feels unmistakably central Italian. It is bright enough for warm weather, but much more interesting once food gets involved.

Why We Love It at Petit Philippe

We love this wine because it tastes completely comfortable being itself. It does not try to imitate Provence or chase a polished international rosé style. Instead, it leans fully into Tuscany and into Canaiuolo, which gives the wine its earthy, herbal, lightly rustic personality. There is also a real sense of place here. The wine feels old-school in the best way: honest, food-driven, and more interesting the longer you sit with it.

Our Rosé Pick this Season

This is a great bottle for people who want rosé with personality. It really shines at the table, especially with pizza, grilled vegetables, salumi, or long outdoor dinners where the food keeps coming out slowly over the course of the evening. If you already enjoy Chianti, Mediterranean reds, or wines with a little savory earth underneath the fruit, this becomes a very easy rosé to connect with.

Winemaking

Montenidoli farms organically in the hills near San Gimignano, where limestone-rich soils and elevation help preserve freshness in the fruit. Il Canaiuolo is fermented with indigenous yeasts and handled with a restrained, traditional cellar approach that allows the grape’s herbal, mineral character to stay fully visible. Canaiuolo naturally brings softer tannins and a savory profile that make the wine especially well suited to food.

Serving & Pairing

Serve lightly chilled, around 50°F. This wine is especially good with tomato-based dishes, grilled vegetables, charcuterie, roast chicken, pizza, pecorino, and Mediterranean cooking with herbs and olive oil. It also opens up nicely as it warms slightly in the glass.

Estate Overview

Montenidoli is one of Tuscany’s historic organic estates, located in the hills outside San Gimignano. Under the longtime direction of Elisabetta Fagiuoli, the estate became known for preserving traditional Tuscan varieties and farming with a deep respect for the surrounding landscape long before organic viticulture became fashionable. Il Canaiuolo reflects that same philosophy, highlighting a grape most producers now blend away and turning it into one of the more distinctive rosés in the RoséFest lineup.
