Description

Think of Monteleccio as the Sesti gateway bottle: Sangiovese from Brunello-quality fruit, made for earlier drinking rather than long cellaring. Stainless steel vinification keeps the fruit clean, while large oak botti adds a traditional Tuscan frame. The result is red-fruited, savory, and built for the table.

Quick Facts

  • Region: Toscana IGT, Tuscany, Italy
  • Variety: 100% Sangiovese
  • Style: Dry, medium-bodied Tuscan red
  • Best For: pasta night, pizza, grilled sausages, casual dinner parties
  • Vintage: 2024

Why We Love It

We like this because it brings Sesti’s Montalcino point of view into a bottle that does not require a cellar, a decanter, or a special occasion. It is the kind of Sangiovese that makes a weeknight bowl of pasta feel more intentional.

Tasting Profile

Bright and savory, with red fruit, herbs, and a Tuscan bite on the finish.

  • Aroma: Red cherry, dried herbs, violet, subtle earth
  • Palate (Flavor): Tart cherry, red plum, cranberry, savory spice
  • Structure & Finish (Mouthfeel): Medium body, fresh acidity, fine tannin, dry savory finish

Winemaking

Vinification in stainless steel keeps the Sangiovese fruit clear and direct. One year of élevage in 30-hectoliter oak botti softens the edges and adds a quiet savory frame without making the wine feel oak-driven. The combination keeps Monteleccio fresh, food-ready, and recognizably Tuscan.

Serving & Pairing

Serve at 55 to 58°F.

Pair with tomato-based pasta, pizza, grilled sausages, roast chicken, or pecorino. The acidity works well with tomato and fat, while the savory edge makes it comfortable with herbs and roasted vegetables.

Perfect For: pasta night, pizza night, casual dinner parties, grilled sausages, weeknight cooking, Tuscan-themed dinners, host gifts

Estate Overview

Giuseppe Sesti purchased the abandoned Castello di Argiano in the 1970s and later planted vineyards around the estate. His daughter Elisa joined full time in 1999 and now plays an active role across vineyard and cellar work. The family’s broader reputation rests on traditional Sangiovese from the Montalcino area, especially Rosso and Brunello. Petit Philippe’s case for Monteleccio is simple: it gives our guests a Sangiovese bridge into Montalcino’s orbit without Brunello weight or Brunello pricing.

Terroir (Place)

Sesti’s vineyards sit on south-facing slopes at roughly 350 meters. The exposure ripens Sangiovese toward red cherry and plum, while the elevation helps preserve freshness. That balance gives Monteleccio its combination of ripe fruit, savory detail, and lifted finish.
