Description
SKIN CONTACT | 4–8 HOURS
Venica & Venica has worked in Collio since 1930s, with Jesera honoring the region's traditional way of producing Pinot Grigio. Known as ramato, Friuli white wines spend very minimal time with their skins (merely hours) to give the wines depth and texture. The result is a traditional copper-toned expression of the grape, with crisp tangerine and orange peel, bright acidity, rounded texture, and a subtle savory edge. It has more shape and flavor than the pale, neutral Pinot Grigio most drinkers know, without becoming heavy or overtly tannic.
We thought this was the perfect introduction into how skin contact in white wines can bring out unique flavors, aromas, and textures without venturing too far from what you might be most familiar with.
Varietal: 100% Pinot Grigio
Vineyard & Winemaking
Sourced from a cool, low-lying vineyard planted on Collio’s ponca soils of marl and sandstone. Grapes are crushed and destemmed, then macerated for 4–8 hours at approximately 14°C under CO₂ protection. The brief skin contact draws copper color and a light phenolic grip from Pinot Grigio’s naturally gray-pink skins, adding texture and savory citrus-peel character without sacrificing brightness. Primarily aged in stainless steel, with a small portion in large neutral wood, prior to approximately six months of lees aging for added breadth and texture.
In the Glass
Light copper in the glass, with crisp tangerine and orange peel leading the way. The palate starts bright and energetic, then broadens into a smooth, rounded texture with a lightly savory quality underneath the citrus. Fresh acidity keeps everything lifted through a clean finish of peel, subtle spice, and mineral detail.
Jesera keeps Pinot Grigio’s brightness but adds rounded texture, savory citrus peel, and light grip, giving the wine more shape through the mid-palate and a longer finish. Reach for it when you want a white that feels refreshing but not simple. Perfect for an aperitivo, a casual dinner, or an easy bottle to open with friends. Pair with antipasti, shellfish, grilled fish, and salty cheeses.
