Why We Love It
This Blanc reflects both site and farming — old blocks of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Auxerrois co-fermented to capture Fir Crest’s character without artifice. It’s the kind of white that feels intentional and complete, with tension and texture that keep you coming back for another sip.
Winemaking
Fir Crest Vineyard, tucked in the coastal foothills of the Oregon Coast Range in the far southwestern corner of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, features marine sedimentary soils and a long growing season that preserves freshness and detail.
Walter Scott works with heritage blocks planted in 1985 — specifically white varieties that have thrived in this unique microclimate. The 2024 Blanc is a co-fermentation of 83% Pinot Blanc, 15% Pinot Gris, and 2% Auxerrois, all indigenous yeast fermentation.
After primary fermentation with ambient yeasts, the wine was aged in 500-liter French oak barrels for nine months and finished in stainless steel, allowing texture from barrel influence without overt oak flavor. Malolactic conversion is present, contributing softness and roundness on the palate.
Petit Perspective: The winemaking emphasizes texture and coastal energy. The balance between lees influence, gentle oak handling, and vibrant acidity underscores both statement and drinkability.
Serving & Pairing
Serve chilled but not cold. This Blanc pairs beautifully with Dungeness crab, oysters or other shellfish, grilled halibut with lemon, light pasta with herbs, and fresh goat cheeses... any dish that benefits from acidity and saline nuance.
